Training Description

This training provides an overview of the Youth Law Center's recently released policy brief, which draws on social science research and interviews with youth, caregivers, and caseworkers in California and across the country to paint a picture of the importance of extracurricurs to young people and the steps systems can take to overcome barriers to access. You will learn about the research that demonstrates the significant benefits of extracurricular participation for young people, systems, and families; the legal principles that entitle youth to participate in these appropriate activities, and that support caregivers and case managers in providing youth with access; the barriers that young people face; and the policy and practice changes that will help us incorporate extracurricular activities as a key intervention for young people.
